Did you know that blue was the first color associated with Ireland and St. Patrick? St. Patrick was often depicted in art wearing a blue robe and it became the color of choice when King Henry VIII declared himself the King of Ireland in the 16th century. Green was adopted over time and became the color of rebellion as the division between British royalty and the Irish people grew. In the 18th century, green became even more symbolic with the adoption of the shamrock as Ireland's national symbol. Green isn't Ireland's official color, in fact, Ireland doesn't have an official national color, but it is fondly known as the Emerald Isle because of its lush green fields and beautiful landscape.
